Contributions from tribal gaming in Arizona surpass records in 2022

Thanks to payments from tribal gambling, the Arizona Benefits Program is growing. According to the Arizona Board of Gaming, annual records for tribal gaming donations to the fund were broken in the financial year 2022.

This is good news for those who support casinos and legalized Arizona sports betting sites. The Grand Canyon Region has more gambling than ever before. What advantages will the state of Arizona receive? Read more details below.

Arizona Tribal Gaming had a record-breaking fourth quarter

According to the ADG, tribal gaming made contributions totaling over $38 million to the Arizona Benefits Program during the final quarter of the fiscal term 2022. Tribal gambling has contributed a total of $123,608,203 in this fiscal year, thanks to the strong quarter.

Over the course of a year, that sum smashes all previous records. The ADG’s Ted Vogt expressed his happiness at the buzz around Arizona’s casinos. The Modified Tribal-State Gaming Compact, which Governor Ducey signed last year, has resulted in the state’s highest rates of tribal revenues, said Vogt.

“It is easy to say 2022 was momentous for Arizona tribal gaming,” the report concludes, “with over $21 million higher in total donations to the Arizona Welfare Fund when opposed to the next greatest fiscal year.” There are currently 24 slots in Arizona that contribute money to the fund, which the ADG oversees along with Arizona’s tribes.

How tribal casino revenues benefit Arizona

The state, counties, towns, and the Arizona Benefits Authority get 88 percent of the annual gaming revenue from tribes with casinos under the terms of the Arizona Tribal Gambling Compacts. The funds support the state’s tourism industry, wildlife preservation, trauma and emergency treatment, and instructional enhancement in schools.

  • The following are the contributions made to the Arizona Welfare Fund for the fourth quarter:
  • Education/Instructional Improvement Fund: $20,734,348
  • $10,000,573,414 Trauma and Ambulance Service Fund
  • Operating expenses for the Arizona Department of Gaming: $2,158,631
  • $2,735,261 in the Arizona Nature Conservation Fund
  • Fund for Tourism: $2,735,261
  • Education, management, and prevention of problem gambling: $479,673

Arizona has received and over $1.82 billion in additional income from tribal gaming since 2002.

Arizona will accept sports betting as part of a deal with the indigenous tribes

In accordance with a plan that is part of an amendment to the state’s agreement that permits Native American tribes to operate casinos, Arizonans would be able to wager on professional and collegiate sports at pachinko parlors and Arizona sportsbooks controlled by pro sports teams, like the Arizona Cardinals which also has their own promo code.

The comprehensive bill, which was presented on Monday in the Arizona House, would also permit online betting, fantasy sports betting, and the addition of limited Keno games at the off-betting establishments and social groups like the American Legion.

Since GOP Gov. Doug Ducey mentioned “an opportunity for a modernized playing games coalition that will bring in even more income for our tribal nations and our state budget” in his State of the Exactamente last month, supporters of the proposal put forth by U.S. Representative Jeff Weninger of Chandler has been eagerly awaiting its introduction.

Ducey has been negotiating a new agreement with tribes for a number of years in the hopes that permitting gaming outside tribal casinos will increase state revenue.

State Representative Weninger stated, “It assists with the involvement of the event, with the players here.” “People watch, going out to pubs and restaurants if people are putting lighthearted little wagers and that helps our income in the state, helps companies in the state.”

A bill in Arizona would permit tribal sports betting

Wednesday saw the introduction of a new Arizona Senate measure that would legalize exclusively tribal sports betting, making Arizona the very first state to do so.

SB 1158 would change the law in Arizona to permit sports betting at casinos that are located on reservations as well as at kiosks at establishments that hold a bar, wine and beer, or private club license.

According to the law, “Each federally recognized Indian tribe having tribal headquarters on Indian grounds located in this state and having a tribal-state gaming coalition entered into according to Chapter 6 of this chapter may conduct sports betting as specified in Section 13-3301. No other individual or organization is allowed to run a sportsbook.

24 tribal casinos exist in Arizona

The 24 casinos in the Las Vegas style are run by 16 different tribes in Arizona, including around half a dozen in and around suburban Phoenix. To be eligible to permit gaming, all the tribes have signed tribal-state compacts with the state. The regulatory entity would be the Department of Gaming, which already controls and regulates gambling.

The rate of tax would be 6.75 percent of modified gross receipts, mobile sports gambling is not covered, and the plan would outlaw “wagering on sports matches that are outlawed by the NCAA.”

SB 1158 could serve as a temporary solution or as a first step as Arizona decides whether or not to eventually legalize commercial sports betting. We sure hope to see some new sportsbooks in Arizona, in time. Complete list of all the Arizona sports betting apps:
